SAN ANGELO, TX — Shenanigan's Sports Bar, 3250 Sherwood Way, is broadcasting the region's season opener for Texas High School Football on all screens this evening for the Wall Hawks versus Mason Punchers varsity game. The game will be played in Mason's Puncherdome, the name for the Puncher's home field and stadium there.
Mason and Wall have a long and spirited rivalry between the two schools. In the 2018 installment, which was the 19th meeting all-time between the schools, was an instant classic.
“It was a playoff atmosphere in game one,” Wall head football coach Houston Guy said. “It’s one of those things that tested our kids really early and showed them what it was gonna be come week 10, week 11, 12, 13. So when those games come around in the playoffs, they’ve been there.”
Mason won 27-21 over Wall at Hawk Stadium to open the season. They held the Hawks in check, taking a 14-0 lead into halftime before the Hawks erased that deficit to tie the game in the second half.
After touchdowns by each team kept the game level at 21 each, and a missed Wall field goal, Jake Cockerham scored the winning touchdown with three minutes left in the game.
The game begins and televised show at Shenanigan's begins at 7 p.m. Proprietor Derrick Hoffman said patrons should get there earlier to get a seat or table. "First come, first served," he said.
The big screens and sound in the bar will be of the Wall vs. Mason game as broadcasted by Fox Sports Southwest.
