Police arrested a man in his 30s after he crashed into a rock while driving a black Chevrolet Malibu on the 3900 block of Sherwood Way. They said he was drunk.
The driver was headed east on Sherwood Way when he bounced off a curb on the right side of the road. Then, the driver careened out-of-control across six lanes of traffic, ran over a cable box, a Yucca plant, a landscaping bounder, and then pushed another decorative boulder that was a part of Holiday Cleaner’s Xeriscape about five feet. The second boulder brought the car to a rest.
According to police, the driver resisted arrest and caused trouble when police attempted to administer a field sobriety test. “We had probable cause to book him for DWI, so we did,” police said.
Only the alleged drunk driver’s car was involved in this crash and no one was injured, despite the driver’s vehicular sashey across six lanes of traffic on San Angelo’s busiest street on a Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened at 5:15 p.m. 20 feet west of the intersection of Sherwood Way and South Oxford Drive.
