Woman's Body Found Inside Truck After Being Swept Away During Flood

BROWNWOOD, TX -- The body of the mother who was swept away by flood water on Mother's day was found inside of the truck yesterday.

On May 12, Firefighters were dispatched to CR 257 due to a truck that was being swept away. On the way to the run they found one of the survivors a 29-year-old man walking down the road trying to get help.

He told firefighters that his girlfriend was driving and went around a road block into the water. Once in the water the truck began being swept away and the two got out of the truck. The man was able to reach dry land but the woman was swept away and held on to the bank until help came.

The mother of the driver was also inside the and was not able to get out of the truck. The truck was submerged and swept down the Pecan Bayou.

Since that day crews have been searching daily to try and recover the truck and woman. On Tuesday however efforts were temporarily stopped due to heavy rains. The search began back again on Thursday and this is when the body was found.

According to KTXS, the woman inside of the truck was 59-year-old Susan Smith from Mills County. A go-fund-me has been set up to help cover Smith's funeral expenses.
