AUSTIN, TX -- The Garden City Bearkat golf team needed a strong showing on Tuesday and got just that to claim the Class 1A state golf championship at the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin.
Garden City turned in a team total of 362 strokes on Monday, eight strokes behind Clyde after the first day. Hagan Halfmann finished with a team-low score of 89 after the first day.
The Bearkats then shaved 14 total strokes off their day one score to turn in a two-day total of 710, four strokes ahead of Clyde Eula for the title. Dakota Roberts led the charge, dropping eight strokes off his game for a team-low 82 on day two and 172 total over the two days. Nick Lara also shaved five strokes off his game for an 85 on day two.
Hagan Halfmann shot 90 on day two and Zach Burnett shot 93 and 91 each day to help the Bearkats to the title.
Mason's Aaron Reardon also used a big comeback on Tuesday in the Class 2A tournament. Reardon shot an opening round 81 before shooting a 71 the very next day to finish seventh at the Roy Kizer Golf Club. The Punchers finished ninth as a team.
Wall's Coleman Coon turned in a two-day score of 166.
