AREA SOFTBALL: Reagan County Shakes Up 4-3A Race with Win Over Ballinger

BIG LAKE, TX -- The Reagan County Lady Owls helped their playoff hopes with a 12-7 win over the Ballinger Lady Bearcats on Monday.

The Lady Owls jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first before furthering their lead to 9-0 in the second. Ballinger responded by putting up four runs in the top of the third inning and one run in the fourth to pull within four runs. Reagan County put three more runs across in the fourth to eventually put the game out of reach.

The Lady Owls were picked up by the middle of their order with Elissa Gallegos and Mia Cervantes each picking up four RBIs. Gallegos finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored while Cervantes was 1-for-3.

Andrea Cervantes also picked up a pair of RBIs and scored three runs while going 1-for-3.

Jenna Battle, Daniella Luna and Kayli Greer each picked up an RBI for the Lady Bearcats. Greer was the only Lady Bearcat to with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.

Yuli Balderas picked up the win in the circle after seven innings of work. Balderas allowed seven runs, three earned, on five hits and seven walks with four strikeouts.

Luna took the loss for Ballinger after six innings of work where she allowed 12 runs, three earned, on eight hits and four walks with eight strikeouts.

Reagan County (11-6, 5-5) moves a half-game behind fourth place Grape Creek with one game left in the season, next Tuesday at Wall.

Ballinger (9-6-1, 8-2) now sits just a half-game ahead of resurgent Wall. The two teams will square off this Friday in Ballinger with the District 4-3A crown on the line.

Box's Late RBI Puts Wall on Doorstep of First Place

The Wall Lady Hawks moved within a half-game of district leader Ballinger with a late 6-4 win over Grape Creek on Monday.

Senior Ashlynn Box provided the eventual game-winning RBI with a triple that scored Payton Box in the fifth inning. Trinitye Ruebsamen would score Ashlynn Box two batters later.

Wall led 4-0 after the first inning, where they sent eight batters to the plate. Grape Creek would eventually tie the game in the top of the fifth when Nita Betts and Morgan Fowler drove in runs in consecutive at-bats.

Ashlynn Box finished the game 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored to extend her on-base streak to 46 games and her hit streak to 20. Ruebsamen also went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Six Lady Hawks tallied multiple hits.

Grape Creek racked up 18 hits. Eight Lady Eagles picked up multiple hits. Kelly Salisbury went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Nita Betts, Caroline and Morgan Fowler each had an RBI for Grape Creek as well.

Izzy Vera picked up the win after allowing four runs on 18 hits and a walk with one strikeout in seven innings of work.

Morgan Fowler took the loss for Grape Creek after allowing six runs on 14 hits with three strikeouts.

Wall (9-16, 7-2) will look to move into a tie for first place when they travel to Sonora on Tuesday. They will meet with first place Ballinger on Friday.

Grape Creek (7-7, 5-4) will look to hold onto a playoff spot when they host TLCA this Friday.

Offensive Outburst Lifts Sonora Past TLCA

The Sonora Lady Broncos picked up their second win in District 4-3A in a 17-3 rout of TLCA in five innings on Monday.

After TLCA trimmed Sonora’s lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the second, the Lady Broncos sent 13 batters to the plate to score five runs and break the game open.

Lesli Ramirez had a stellar day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Ramirez, Danyse Cantu and Dekota Morrow each had two RBIs for the Lady Broncos.

McKenna Manley was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Eagles. Tyrah Atchison and Macy Lawdermilk picked up the lone RBIs for TLCA.

Cantu picked up the win for Sonora after throwing five innings and allowing three runs on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts. Manley took the loss after throwing 2.2 innings where she allowed 12 runs, three earned, on four hits and 10 walks with two strikeouts.

Sonora (5-17, 2-8) will host Wall on Tuesday. TLCA (5-21, 1-8) will travel to Brady on Tuesday before traveling to Grape Creek on Friday.
