SAN ANGELO, TX — On a cool Saturday night, March 30, 2019, at the San Angelo RiverStage, thousands rocked to the sounds of the ‘80s at the inaugural Dos Equis West Texas Jam.
Headlined by nationally-renown AC/DC tribute band Back in Black, the show began at 6:20 p.m. with Blaze of Glory, the Bon Jovi tribute band. Def Leggend performed their tribute to Def Leppard.

The highlight of the evening came at the end of Black in Black’s rendition of AC/DC’s “For Those About to Rock.” Fireworks filled the night sky for about five minutes throughout the final song.
Energy from the crowd was very noticeable, said Back in Black’s lead singer Darren Caperna. “You could see the energy started to boom in the crowd when the fireworks went off,” he said. The band fed off that energy, ending the performance with a standing ovation and chants from the audience for an encore.
Back in Black returned to the stage to a very appreciative audience for their standing ovation.
West Central Wireless sponsored what became a popular segment of the show called the “Air Guitar Contest.” While only five could participate, more and more contestants approached the stage wanting to compete. Water Logistics sponsored a lip-syncing contest earlier.
There were 2100 tickets sold, although the cooler weather hampered walk-up sales.
The Second West Texas Jam was announced for Sept. 14 at the RiverStage. The headliner will be a KISS tribute band opened by a Motley Crue tribute band and a Poison tribute band. Tickets will go on sale this month.
The West Texas Jam is produced by Joe Hyde at San Angelo LIVE! and Clint Reichenau.
