AREA BASEBALL: Late Offensive Burst Gives Miles Win Over Winters

 

MILES, TX -- The Miles Bulldogs used seven runs in the third and fourth innings and held off a late rally attempt to down the Winters Blizzards 7-3 on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs were picked up by Davian Martinez, who drove in two runs while going 3-for-4 at the plate on Tuesday.

Corley Russell sparked a four-run third inning when he knocked an RBI single through the left side of the infield. Martinez picked up his first RBI of the day one batter later. Stihl Hoffman drove in the third run of the inning with a bases-loaded walk after Martinez. Mason Bryan finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly that plated the fourth run.

Winters tried to spark a comeback after Orlando Ochoa drove in Domynic Alvarado on a double. After a double play, Winters then scored two runs on singles from J.P. Killough and Alex Salas. Miles' Sterling Barker then closed the door on the Blizzard's rally by picking off Trent Hamilton trying to steal third base.

Noel Sanchez picked up the win on the bump for Miles after going four innings and allowing just four hits and two walks against two strikeouts. 

In addition to Martinez, Nicky Perez and Brandon Rodriguez each had multi-hit games.

Miguel Rodriguez was charged the loss for Winters in four innings of work where he surrendered four runs on seven hits with a strikeout.

Reagan Rodriguez was the only Blizzard to have a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Miles (8-9, 3-1) will travel to Cross Plains this Friday. Winters (6-3, 2-1) will travel to May this Saturday.

No. 2 Wall Run Rules Ballinger Behind Young's Gem

The second-ranked Wall Hawks kept their unblemished record on Tuesday with a 10-0 win over Ballinger behind stellar pitching from Luke Young.

Young allowed just two hits and struck out five batters in five innings of shutout baseball.

Wall opened the scoring in the bottom of the first by scoring three runs. The Hawks would also score three runs each in the second and third innings before capping off the scoring with a single run in the fourth inning.

Caleb Heuertz was dominant at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Kye Hebert had a pair of RBIs and a run scored after going 1-for-2.

Tanner Seider picked up Wall's only other RBI.

Charlie Mascorro was the only other Hawk to register a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Cody Harral took the loss on the mound for Ballinger. He allowed nine runs on eight hits and six walks with one strikeout.

Jayden Rivera and Edgar Nunez had Ballinger's only hits of the game.

Wall (18-0, 4-0) will travel to Reagan County in a battle for first place in the district. Ballinger (3-13, 0-3) hosts TLCA this Friday.
