AREA BASEBALL: Heuertz Drives in 7 Runs as No. 2 Wall Routs Grape Creek; Central Wins in Extras

 

GRAPE CREEK, TX -- The no. 2-ranked Wall Hawks scored early and often to rout the Grape Creek Eagles 25-1 in five innings on Thursday.

Wall jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the top of the first inning and didn't look back.

Junior Caleb Heuertz highlighted Wall's offensive explosion, going 2-for-2 with seven RBIs, two runs scored, a home run and a double to his name. Heuertz home run was of the grand slam variety during that 15-run first inning for the Hawks.

Charlie Mascorro would homer later in the first. Luke Young came into the lineup late in the game and hit Wall's third home run of the game during a nine-run outburst in the fourth.

Mascorro would finish the game 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Young went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

In total, six Hawks picked up multiple RBIs and 20 of their 25 runs were earned runs.

Sutton Hurst picked up the win for the Hawks after going three innings and allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts. Gage Weishuhn and Ryan Gully each had an inning of relief work. Weishuhn allowed one hit against three strikeouts in the fourth inning. Gully struck out the side in order to finish the game in the fifth inning.

Wall (17-0, 3-0) will host Ballinger on Tuesday. Grape Creek (1-6, 0-2) will travel to TLCA on Tuesday.

Extra Inning Explosion Gives Central Sweep Over Weatherford

The Central Bobcats completed a two-game sweep of the Weatherford Kangaroos with a 13-6 win in eight innings.

Central held a 3-0 lead after the first inning, only to see the 'Roos tie the game in the third and take a 6-3 lead in the fourth.

The Bobcats rallied for a run in the fifth and two runs in the seventh to force extra innings. Oscar Nino tied the game on a two-run single in the seventh.

Central then sent 12 batters to the plate to pick up seven runs to win the game in the eighth. Jakob Charles put Central up 8-6 with a two-run double in extras and the rest was history.

Blake Mikeska went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored. Nixon Brannon was 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Baylor signee Rance Rosas finished 3-for-5 as well while also scoring two runs. Nino finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored to lead the Bobcats.

Dylan Abbott picked up the win on the bump for the Bobcats after going two innings in relief, allowing just one hit against one strikeout.

Gunner Couch started the game on the hill. Couch would allow six runs on five hits against five strikeouts.Rosas picked up two innings of relief where he allowed one hit, struck out two and walked two.

Central (14-6-1, 2-0) will host Euless Trinity at home on Tuesday.
