AREA BASEBALL: No. 7 Wall Run Rules Miles to Open the Season

 

WALL, TX -- The no. 7-ranked Wall Hawks opened their 2019 campaign with an emphatic 12-2 win over the Miles Bulldogs in five innings thanks to an explosive second inning.

Wall's Jake Jansa went 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored. Tanner Seider had the highlight, going 1-for-2 at the plate with a two-run home run for Wall.

Miles held a 1-0 lead after the first inning thanks to an RBI double from Sterling Baker to score Stihl Hoffman.

Wall then sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning to score nine runs. Seider highlighted the explosive inning with his home run, driving in Bryson Ballard.

The scoring went quiet until the bottom of the fourth inning when Jansa scored on an error by Jared Flores to put Wall up 10-1.

Miles scored their second run when Flores was hit by a pitch in the top of the fifth with the bases loaded, scoring Seth Michalewicz.

Wall finished the game in the bottom of the same inning with Tristan Jenkins scoring on a wild pitch and Wyatt Paul scoring on an error.

Ballard and Luke Young combined to allow just two hits in the win. Young went three innings to get the decision after allowing one run on one hit with seven strikeouts. Ballard allowed one run on one hit with five strikeouts in two innings of work.

Nicky Perez was charged with the loss after allowing five runs in one inning of work.

Wall (1-0) will take on Seminole and Pecos to open the Shallowater tournament on Thursday.

Miles (0-1) will travel to the Early tournament, where they open with Comanche.

Brady Holds Off Early's Late Rally

The Brady Bulldogs allowed five runs in the seventh inning against Early, but held on for a 13-9 win to open the season on Monday.

Walker Bauer kicked off the season with a stellar day. Bauer went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple, four RBIs and a run scored.

Benjamin and Caleb Galindo combined to go 3-for-8 at the plate with five RBIs and three runs scored.

Brady scored 12 runs over the first three innings of the game to take a 12-3 lead.

Caleb Galindo earned the win after three innings of relief for Kasen Baronet. Baronet went three innings, allowing three runs on one hit with four strike outs, but didn't qualify for the win.

Galindo fulfilled the requirements to qualify for the win after going three innings with one run on one hit with five strikeouts.

Brady (1-0) travels to the Ozona tournament this weekend.
