ELDORADO, TX-- The Eldorado Lady Eagles had two players in double digit scoring to pave the way for a 47-35 win over Miles on Tuesday.
The win keeps Eldorado unbeaten in district play and marks their best start to district play since 2011.
The Lady Eagles had to overcome a slow start, falling behind 4-2 early in the first. They then went on a 8-2 run to regain the lead at 10-6. Miles regained some momentum by going on a 5-2 run to close the first quarter, trailing 12-11.
Eldorado swung the momentum in their favor by outscoring Miles 18-6 in the second quarter. The Lady Eagles highlighted that quarter with eight points from Payton Whitten and a 14-2 run from the six minute mark to the end of the first half, giving Eldorado a 30-17 lead into the break.
Miles still couldn't find a rhythm in the third as Eldorado extended their lead to 41-22. The Lady Bulldogs found their rhythm in fourth quarter and outscored Eldorado 10-6, but the deficit was too large.
Eldorado was able to hold MIles' Skyler Brooks to two points and Regan Smithwick to six points.
The Lady Eagles were led by Vic Dehanis who scored 15 points. Codee Meador was the only other Lady Eagle in double figures with 11 points.
Eldorado (16-5, 4-0) will travel to fellow unbeaten and Highway 277 rival Christoval this Friday with the top spot in District 7-2A on the line.
Miles (5-12, 1-3) will host Ozona on Friday.
Christoval Edges Forsan, Setting Up Colossal Meeting with Eldorado
The Christoval Lady Cougars took on The Forsan Lady Buffaloes in a game that they almost lost late. The Lady Cougars ended up taking the win 35-32.
The first quarter was fairly even with both offenses firing on full cylinders. Both teams scored in the double digits with Christoval leading 11-10.
The defenses showed up in the second quarter with neither team scoring more than 10. Allison Vaughn for the Lady Cougars had eight of the 17 first half points. The ball game was tied at 17 a piece at halftime.
The second half started with Christoval being hot from downtown. Graci Jones hit two three pointers. The Lady Buffaloes couldn’t get anything going on offense, which brought the score to 27-22.
The Lady Buffaloes almost made a comeback thanks to excellent free throw shooting, but luckily for the Lady Cougars they also matched them even better free throws as they ended up winning 35-32.
Allison Vaughn finished with 11 points.
Cristoval (16-10, 4-0) will host Eldorado on Friday.
No. 1 Wall Holds Reagan County Under 20 to Keep Streak Rolling
Seniors Sawyer Lloyd and Sam Rocha combined for 30 points to lift no. 1-ranked Wall to a 69-17 win at Reagan County on Tuesday.
The win marked Wall's 13th in a row and sets the Lady Hawks up with an opportunity to clinch a playoff spot at home this Friday.
Wall never had trouble with the Lady Owls, outscoring them 27-3 in the first quarter behind eight points each from Lloyd and Candra Barnett. The Lady Hawks cooled off a little in the second, but managed to increase their massive lead by eight points at 38-6 going into the half.
Behind seven points from Sam Rocha, Wall increased their lead to 57-10 going into the fourth quarter. With three pointers from Clarissa Flores and Shyann Darr, Reagan County had their best quarter with seven points.
Lloyd had the game-high mark of 16 points. Rocha finished the game with 14.
Flores and Darr each finished with six points for Reagan County.
Wall (21-3, 7-0) will look to clinch a playoff spot this Friday at home against TLCA.
Reagan County (7-12, 2-5) will return to action next Tuesday @ TLCA.
No. 3 Mason's Streak Grows to 20 Games With Rout of Rival Junction
The no. 3-ranked Mason Cowgirls now haven't lost a game in their last 20 outings after routing rival Junction 75-17 on the road Tuesday.
Mason outscored Junction 43-11 behind 14 first half points from Ruby Mangus.
The Cowgirls then put on a flawless defensive display in the third by holding Junction scoreless to move ahead 64-11 going into the fourth quarter.
Mason was led by Mangus with a game-high 19 points. Presley Anastas and Tessa Guice finished with 10 points each for the Cowgirls.
Mason (27-1, 3-0) will host Center Point this Friday to close out the first round of district play.
Junction (1-12, 1-2) begins a slate of three straight road games to close out the season starting Friday at Harper.
Ballinger Rolls TLCA to Hold Spot in District 4-3A
The Ballinger Lady Cats rolled the TLCA Lady Eagles at their home 53-18 behind Kinlee Bowman’s 17 points.
The first quarter TLCA only managed to score three points, and it started a trend for the game. At the end of the first the score was 12-3.
Ballinger’s defense continued to play strong as they never gave up double digit points in any quarter. The Lady Cats also found a lot of success from three point range as they went on finish the half 27-8.
The second half showed the same signs as the first, but TLCA did get into a press to try to come back. They couldn’t pull the lead as they were outscored once again to bring the score 39-14.
Bowman had six points in the fourth quarter to allow them to cruise to the finish line winning the game 53-18.
Kait Kirkland was the beacon for TLCA with 10 of their 18 points.
TLCA (2-12, 1-6) travels to first place Wall this Friday.
Ballinger (16-13, 6-1) will host Sonora this Friday.
No. 7 Garden City Rolls Grady to Stay Perfect in District 8-1A
The red-hot, no. 7-ranked Garden City Lady Bearkats maintained their form with a dominant 53-26 home win over Grady on Tuesday.
The Lady Kats set the tone in the first quarter by holding Grady to just two points en route to a 12-2 lead after the first quarter.
Garden City extended their lead to 27-7 at the half behind seven points from sophomore guard Jordan Driver.
Grady couldn't stop Garden City, but were able to take the fourth quarter by outscoring Garden City 14-12.
Driver had a pair of three pointers to help her earn the game-high scoring mark of 17 points. Lyndee Walker wasn't too far behind with 16. Angelica Munguia was the only other Lady Kat in double figures with 10 points.
Garden City (23-3, 4-0) will begin the second round of district play on Jan. 22 when they travel to Borden County.
Davis, Defense Lifts Bronte to Dominant Win Over Irion County
The Bronte Lady Longhorns used stellar defense and an explosive first half to down Irion County 47-24.
The Lady Longhorns showcased their range well in the win, hitting six three pointers as a team.
E'Lexia Davis kicked off Bronte's onslaught of threes in the first quarter with a pair to help the Lady Longhorns to an 11-6 lead. Her team soon followed suit.
Bronte exploded for 19 points in the second quarter, with Davis hitting another pair of threes and Karissa Cervenka hitting one from behind the arc to extend Bronte's lead to 30-13.
The Lady Hornets came out firing in the second half, though. Irion County outscored Bronte 10-9 in the third behind five points from Maci Jo Benson.
Any momentum Irion County felt they had was wiped away in the fourth, however, as Bronte held them to just 1 point while scoring eight of their own.
Bronte (10-8, 3-4) will look to build on their momentum when they host their Coke County rival Robert Lee this Thursday.
Irion County falls to 1-6 as they head to district front-runner Veribest this Friday.
Sonora Rides Hot Hands to Comfortable Win Over Brady
The Sonora Lady Broncos hosted the Brady Lady Bulldogs in a game that was never close. Skylar Harris and Mary Kyle Johnson’s combined 45 points pushed them through the 71-36 victory.
The first quarter Sonora jumped out to a huge lead 17-9. The Lady Bulldogs seemed to be overpowered throughout the whole game.
The second quarter was much of the same. Sonora actually improved on their first quarter lead by putting up 21 second quarter points. Their lead at the half was 38-19.
The third quarter was a little tighter than the rest of the game. Brady only allowed 12 points. The only problem was they only scored six points. The Lady Broncos continued with a 50-25 lead into the fourth.
The Lady Broncos didn’t let up in the fourth either as they outscored the Lady Bulldogs 21-11. This brought the final score to 71-36.
Skylar Harris had 28 points and Mary Kyle Johnson had 17 points.
Sonora (22-5, 5-2) will travel to Ballinger on Friday.
Brady (6-11, 3-4) will host district cellar-dweller Grape Creek this Friday hoping to hang on to fourth place.
Explosive Second Half Give Central Bounce-Back Win
The Central Lady Cats had to overcome a first quarter deficit, but beat Abilene Wylie 58-44 to bounce back from Friday's loss to Hurst L.D. Bell.
Wylie jumped out to an 11-8 lead after the first quarter. Then the Lady Cats found their rhythm and outscored the Lady Bulldogs in the second quarter to take a 23-21 lead into halftime.
Central picked up where they left off in the third quarter, dominating Wylie to take a 47-31 lead into the fourth quarter. There, Wylie got hot on offense, but couldn't cool Central off as the Lady Cats secured the win.
Senior guard Parris Parmer had a stellar night, going 4-of-8 from the field for a game-high 15 points. Layla Young was the only other Lady Cat in double figures with 12 points.
Central (23-6, 5-1) will resume play in District 3-6A when they host Fort Worth Haltom this Friday on Teacher Appreciation night.
Late Flurry Not Enough for Water Valley at No. 22 Blackwell
Kenzie Jordan's 11 fourth quarter points were not enough for Water Valley to complete the comeback against no. 22-ranked Blackwell in a 58-47 loss on the road Tuesday.
The Lady Wildcats took a narrow 13-12 lead to the second quarter behind Kirstyn Greebon's seven first quarter points. However, Water Valley simmered down in the second, as Blackwell heated up to take a 29-21 lead at the half.
The Lady Wildcats took two points off the deficit in the third by outscoring Blackwell 13-11 thanks to six points from Jordan and Greebon's second three pointer of the game.
Jordan then found another gear for her 11 fourth quarter points. She went 5-of-7 from the free throw line with three two-point field goals. The only other Lady Wildcat to score in the quarter was Brittany Sutton.
Water Valley falls to 4-3 in District 11-1A and will host Sterling City this Friday.
Eden Rides Bunger's 15 Points for Rivalry Win to Inch Closer to Playoff Spot
The Eden Lady Bulldogs got a big time performance from Emily Bunger to lift them to a 36-22 win over rival Menard on Tuesday.
The win means the Lady Bulldogs are one win and a Paint Rock loss away from clinching a playoff spot. Paint Rock beat Panther Creek 33-9 on Tuesday, scrubbing a chance for Eden to clinch this week.
Eden jumped out to a 12-2 lead after the first quarter thanks to eight points from Bunger.
Menard answered by cutting into Eden's lead on six points from Naudya Sanchez to make it 17-12 at the half.
Eden responded in the third with a pair of three-pointer from Marlee Odom and Emily Hemmeter and four more points from Bunger to extend their lead to 30-14 entering the fourth quarter.
The Lady Yellowjackets tried to cut into the deficit in the fourth, but could only manage eight points, half of which came from Ruby Ramon-Duque.
Bunger finished with a game-high 16 points for Eden. Sanchez was the only other player this game in double figures with 10 points for Menard.
Eden moves to 7-0 in District 12-1A. They will face Paint Rock on Tuesday, Jan. 22, with a chance to clinch a playoff berth.
Menard falls to 4-3 and a third place tie with Santa Anna. Menard will face Paint Rock this Friday.
