SWEETWATER, TX-- Five fights left 12 students arrested at Sweetwater High School last Friday.
Sweetwater Police say that the fights started in the morning before school even started and then carried on through the rest of the day.
Two resource officers, Sweetwater P.D, teachers, and administrators were all a part in breaking up the fights. This led to multiple students assaulting officers and employees, leaving some with bruises and scratches.
A number of videos were recorded on cell phones like this one, but viewer discretion is advised due to vulgar language and violence. As you can see two girls looked to be in an altercation, but a cop and a faculty member separated the two. In cases like this, police try to break up fights without the use of force, especially with girls. But in the video the girl continued to to resist, so the officer was forced to take her to the ground.
Many other videos show police using vulgar language telling students to get the "F---" on the ground. Sweetwater Police Chief Brian Freida said they used this so they would have to use the least amount of physical force used. Another video showed a student who tackled another student who then tumbled down the stairs into an all out brawl. This video looked to be planned as the person recording seemed to be following the fight the entire time. These videos were discovered by KTXS.
After the day of fights was over, the arrest total were 12 students and some of these students received felony charges.
The Sweetwater P.D and Sweetwater I.S.D are still investigating why the fights occurred. We reached out to the Sweetwater High school, but they have yet to respond to our request for comment.
