Freezing Rain Thursday Night Will Make Roadways Dangerous Across the Concho Valley

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Texas Department of Transportation crews were out Thursday spraying brine on area roadways in anticipation of freezing precipitation early Friday morning.

The National Weather Service office in San Angelo is urging drivers to stay off the roads if at all possible Thursday night through Saturday.

The NWS says a very cold air mass will move into the area beginning tonight, as an upper level system moves across West Texas.

There will be a chance for light rain to become freezing rain early tomorrow morning west of a line from Sterling City to Sweetwater to Haskell.

This freezing rain should end as temperature warm above freezing by mid morning Friday.

Then a wintry mix is possible from Friday evening into Saturday, generally north of a Sterling City to Brownwood line.

Travel is highly discouraged for these areas from Friday evening into Saturday.

Elsewhere, moderate to heavy rainfall will be possible across the southern half of the area.

Although significant accumulations are not expected at this time, bridges, overpasses, elevated surfaces, and exposed objects like power lines will be most susceptible to icing.

There's a 40 percent chance of rain tonight with temperatures in the mid 30s.  On Friday, there is a 100 percent chance of heavy rain with temperatures in the mid 40s.
