AREA BOYS HOOPS: Daniels, Lake View Get Hot Against 1A Irion County

MERTZON, TX-- The Lake View Chiefs bounced back from the Doug McCutchen tournament with a dominant 65-27 win over Irion County.

The Chiefs used a hot start to take the momentum in this game, outscoring the Hornets 18-4 in the first quarter behind six points from Tyler Woods.

That momentum carried into the second quarter as the Chiefs' lead grew to 38-11 before the break.

Ahmad Daniels then got red-hot for three three pointers in the third quarter to move Lake View's lead to 58-20 going into the final period.

Irion County was able to hold their own in the fourth quarter by matching the Chiefs' scoring with seven points.

Daniels finished with a game-high 18 points.

Hawks Dominant in Rivalry Win Over Jim Ned

The Wall Hawks dominated the Jim Ned Indians 53-29.

In the first quarter, the Hawks looked dominant. They started the game with an 11-0 run and looked as if they’d never get scored on. The score for the first quarter was 13-3.

The second quarter the Hawks' full court press was just too much for the Indians. Behind Colton Chitsey’s 13 points at the halfway point the Hawks led 31-7.

The start of second half looked like a different ball game for the Hawks, but they still played good defense with no one scoring until there were three minutes left in the third quarter.

Wall was only able to put up seven points in the third quarter.

Jim Ned actually outscored the Hawks but the score was 40-16 to start the fourth quarter.

The Hawks ended up finishing out the game strong behind Chitsey’s 22 points and Isaiah Guerra’s 12 points.

Wall improves to 8-0 on the young season.

Abilene Wylie Cuts Off Central's Comeback With Hot Shooting

The Central Bobcats comeback fell just short. The Cats fell 70-63 to the Wylie Bulldogs after nine made three pointers by Wylie’s Duncan Bacon.

First half of play was a three point shooting expo for Bacon. Back and forth is how the first quarter of play started until Wylie got hot. With the streaky shooting of Jaison Duarte, the Cats were able to match the hot Bulldog start and ending the first quarter only down four.

In the second quarter Central’s offense struggled. Every time itt looked like Central was getting back into the game, Wylie kept hitting shots. After being outscored 19-9 in the second quarter, the Cats went into half down 41-27.

Wylie started the second half on a quick 6-0 run. After the run, the quarter was very slow compared to the first half. The Bobcat full court press was forcing tough offensive possessions for Wylie. After being down 21 points, a big three from the Cats pulled them within nine with 2 minutes, 28 minutes to play in the quarter. After a technical foul call on the Cats, the deficit grew to 13. Wylie took a 53-40 lead into the final frame of play.

Fighting back once again, with 5:48 to play, Central found themselves back within eight. After back and forth scoreless possessions, Wylie’s Duncan Bacon did what he had been doing all night. Another three point bucket that put the Bulldogs back up double digits.

The Cats full court press continued to cause trouble for the Bulldogs as once again Central made a run. After big three point make from Deveraux Minix the Cats found themselves within 5 with 40 seconds to play. After a big late game push, the Cats were unable to complete the comeback as they fell 70-63.

Central’s Michael Bonner finished with 16 points while Wylie’s Duncan Bacon finished with a game high 31 points.
