FORT STOCKTON, TX-- The Lake View Chiefs won 28-21 over Clint Mountain View for their first playoff win in four years thanks to senior David Tanguma's interception and 3-yard touchdown run four plays later.
Tanguma picked off Mountain View as they were driving downfield looking to take their first lead. The Loboes got as far as Lake View's 45-yard line. Tanguma then picked off the Mountain View pass and returned the ball to Lake View's 35-yard line.
The senior then scored with 2 minutes and 48 seconds left in the game. Tanguma came in as a running back for Kendall Blue who left with an injury earlier.
Lake View never trailed in the game, but couldn't ever stretch the game to multiple scores.
For all but the last score, Mountain View had an answer for the Chiefs and stayed within striking distance.
Lake View had a chance to take the lead, but stalled at Mountain View's 13 with one minute left in the third quarter.
The Chiefs will now face Wichita Falls Hirschi at Shotwell Stadium next Saturday at 2 p.m.
Big Second Half Leads Garden City Past Rankin
The Garden City Bearkats used 55 points in the second half to secure the bi-district championship against the Rankin Red Devils.
The Bearkats led 16-14 at the half before running rampant in the second half to win 71-41.
Rankin jumped out to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. Garden City then scored 23 points unanswered and never looked back.
Garden City had 392 yards of total offense compared to Rankin's 325.
Amando Alegria led the way for the Bearkats with 175 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Hunter McMillan also had three rushing touchdowns and 49 yards rushing on 10 carries.
Garden City (11-0) advances to the area round where they will face Borden County at Colorado City next Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
