Wall's Ashlynn Box Bolsters Rambelle Softball with Signing

WALL, TX-- The Angelo State Rambelle softball team just added a dynamic local talent after Wall third baseman Ashlynn Box signed her National Letter of Intent to the hometown program.

Staying close to home was a big factor in Box's decision, as she decided against going to Division I programs out of state. Her final two choices were ASU and Lubbock Christian University.

Box said she figured out that she wanted to stay home last year.

"I wasn't really feeling leaving my state," the senior said. "I wasn't really feeling going anywhere far. I knew I wanted to go big, but not far. Angelo State and LCU, of course they were high in Division II. Being able to be looked at by both of them was an honor."

Angelo State has made it to the Division II Women's College World Series in consecutive years. They have also won the Lone Star Conference championship and South Central Regional Championship in those same years.

That success sold Box on head coach Travis Scott's program.

"He's a real nice guy and the girls out there are good and they'd be fun to work with," Box said of the program.

Box is also ready for added attention this season following her signing.

"They're gonna put their eyes on me after I sign, of course," Box added. "Not many people know, but after signing I know I'm gonna have a bigger name. More people are gonna know and they're gonna expect me to do bigger things."

Box intends to better her numbers from last year, which will be no easy task.

In 2018, Box was red-hot in the postseason for the Lady Hawks, hitting .722 with 20 RBIs and 11 runs scored in six games. In the field, Box was just as good with a .912 fielding percentage and 10 double plays turned.
