Detectives Investigate 2003 Murder of 60-Year-Old Sandra Brewer

On July 23, 2003, Sandra Brewer was brutally murdered in her San Angelo home in the 1900 block of Veck St. Days later, her body was found by an SAPD patrol officer, however in the absence of witnesses or solid leads to go on, the case has since gone cold.

Eleven years later, SAPD cold case detectives are still trying to crack the case, and are disseminating information in the hopes that a witness will come forward and bring the murderer to justice.

“It was just a senseless killing,” said cold case detective Sam* (name changed for anonymity). “She’s an older lady that didn’t have any enemies, didn’t have anybody that didn’t like her. She had a childlike mentality…but that’s one of those things where you’d really like to solve one…but it’s like why?

Brewer was 60 years old when she was found in her house on July 27, 2003, and police say the motive is still unknown. After concerned family and friends had not heard from her in several days, the police department was contacted and Brewer was listed as missing.

“She turned up missing and it was a couple of days before a patrol officer went by and looked in the window checking on her and found her that way,” Sam said. “The house was closed up.

“She had friends that she was supposed to do stuff with that she didn’t show up for and she talked to her mom regularly and there was no contact for a couple of days, so mom starts getting worried and that’s where the call came from,” he continued.

When Brewer was found, she was determined to have suffered multiple stab wounds. To this day, no witnesses to the crime have come forward and no one that lived nearby at the time has reported seeing anything suspicious when the incident occurred.

“Somebody out there knows what happened and has been struggling with it for a long time,” Lieutenant David Howard said.

“Anybody that has any thought of something that might be useful, no matter how small, don’t hesitate to call,” Sam added. “You never know, that one thing might be the thing that blows this whole thing wide open.”

Sandra Brewer was white female often seen in the area around her home on her three-wheeled scooter. At the time of her death, she had attended and was an active member of Harris Avenue Baptist Church for three years.
