SAN ANGELO, TX — A Florida man wanted on a Tom Green County felony warrant was arrested Friday afternoon after a multi-agency pursuit that ended with his vehicle being disabled and deputies using a taser to take him into custody.
The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were assisting Homeland Security Investigations with serving a warrant in the 2600 block of O’Bryan Lane around 3:10 p.m. when the suspect, identified as Meren Ed Thompson, 54, of Bradenton, Florida, tried to flee. Investigators said Thompson nearly struck a federal agent with his vehicle before leading officers through the north side of San Angelo.

The chase ended when Texas DPS troopers used a tactical vehicle intervention in the 1900 block of North Bryant. Thompson then attempted to run but was stopped after being hit with less-lethal rounds and tased by deputies, according to the sheriff’s office.
After a medical evaluation, Thompson was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on the original felony possession of a controlled substance warrant. He also faces new charges of possession of a controlled substance PG1 and evading arrest or detention. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
The sheriff’s office thanked the San Angelo Police Department, Department of Homeland Security, San Angelo Fire Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Texas Department of Public Safety for their assistance.
