SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Water Valley Lady Wildcats exacted their revenge from 2017 with a sweep of Klondike in the 1A Region I semifinal.
Last year, Klondike won that match in four sets.
This year, Water Valley won 25-17, 25-19 and 25-22 to advance to the regional final on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
The first two sets were calm compared to the final set. Water Valley and Klondike went back and forth in that final set.
Trailing 14-11, Klondike took a timeout and gained some momentum to go on a 11-6 run and take a 22-20 lead late in the set.
Water Valley rallied to take the final five points to claim the match and their spot with Bronte in the 1A Region I final on Saturday.
Bronte Gives Marfa Deja Vu
The defending state champion Bronte Lady Longhorns handled business in the first match of the Class 1A Region I volleyball tournament.
The Lady Longhorns swept the Marfa Lady Shorthorns to open the tournament for the second consecutive year.
Bronte dominated the first set by going on a 12-0 run thanks to aces by Cassidy McWright to start the first set before winning 25-16.
The Lady Longhorns would have to fight off minor deficits in the next two sets to win the match. Bronte won 25-20 and 25-22 in the final sets.
Bronte will face Water Valley in the Regional Final tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. It will be the fourth meeting between the schools this season.
