ABILENE, TX-- Abilene ISD's proposed $138.7 million bond package passed with ease on election night. The package will supposedly make "significant changes to Abilene Independent School District’s infrastructure," according to a report from KTXS.
Abilene voted 63 percent for (14,887 votes) to 37 percent against (8,800 votes).
The package dedicates $69.1 million to renovating three Abilene elementary schools: Austin Elementary School, opened 1959; Dyess Elementary School, opened 1957; Taylor Elementary School, opened 1955.
The remaining $69.6 million will be divvied up with $36.6 million going to their new career tech center, $23 million going to athletic and fine arts program expansion and renovation and the remaining $10 million will go to capital improvements, according to the Abilene ISD website.
The bond passing means Abilene residents have to pay an extra $13 per month for every $100,000 their house is worth.
