Artists of EnPleinAir Trapped Indoors Due to Inclement Weather

SAN ANGELO, TX – The fifth annual EnPleinAirTEXAS Competition hosted by The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is well under way and is wrapping up this weekend. You can see all of these 34 painter’s labors of love this Saturday at the Quartermaster and Commissary Buildings at Ft. Concho from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.. They will be available for sale or just to see San Angelo from the painters’ points of view.

We caught up with William "Bill" Suys (see above photo) and John Caggiano (see above photo) at M.L. Leddy’s Boots painting oils they hadn’t named yet. Caggiano visited here from Massachusetts to paint San Angelo and said he has found San Angelo’s great history and visuals to be the inspiration for his work here. Gallery Verde is the event’s headquarters and we went there to catch up with a couple of other artists and see their work.

Kathleen Hudson (see above photo) comes to San Angelo from Kentucky and says she likes being able to paint, “roads that lead your eye back” because Kentucky doesn’t quite have views as wide open as San Angelo’s. She went into painting after graduating college in 2009 during the recession.

Richard Sneary (see above photo) is from Kansas City and has been painting for EnPleinAir since 2011. He was in architecture until the recession of 1975. He has taught at University of Kansas and been doing illustration work since 1985. His preference is in landscape and only paints with watercolors. His works usually take between two and six hours.
