REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY: Eight Area Schools Send Runners to State

 

LUBBOCK, TX-- Runners from across the state descended on Lubbock for the UIL Region I Cross Country meet.

Christoval's Allison Vaughn is the lone girl to advance to the state meet from the Concho Valley in Class 2A. The sophomore finished sixth in the region with a time of 12 minutes, 29 seconds.

The Lady Cougars, who finished fifth, just missed out on qualifying as a team by 22 places behind Wellington.

The Miles Bulldogs boys team finished second in the region with 103 places to first place Sundown's 68.

The Bulldogs were led by star seniors Joe Meza and Samuel Cruz, who finished fifth and sixth respectively. Meza finished with a time of 17:09.60. Cruz finished at 17:12.40.

Ozona's duo of Humberto and Manuel Torralba qualified individually by finishing 15th and 16th overall. Humberto finished at 17:35.20 while Manuel finished at 17:35.50.

Eldorado's Jose Moya narrowly qualified for the state meet with a time of 17:38.50 good for 18th overall. That was 10 second faster than the 19th place finisher.

Miles also sent Tycie Lange and Alexa Schwertner to the regional meet on the girls side. Schwertner finished with a time of 13:53.10. Lange clocked a time of 14:18.90.

The Central Bobcats also participated in the meet. The Bobcats finished 24th as a team.

Senior Antonio Uriegas was the top runner for Central with a time of 17:34.30.

In Class 3A girls, Brady's Taylor Limbaugh, a sophomore, claimed the overall top spot with a time of 11:58.50 to book her spot in the state meet. The Lady Bulldogs finished 10th as a team.

The Wall Lady Hawks team of Maci Beeles, Shaylee Shiller, Cyleste Mirelez, Bethany Pugh, Elise Countess, Emily Shiller and Reagan Beeles claimed the regional championship in 3A.

Sophomores Maci Beeles and Shaylee Shiller powered the team to the win. Beeles finished second overall at 12:00.10. Shiller posted a time of 12:11.80.

Sonora's Camille Harris qualified for the state meet individually with a time of 12:18.40.

The Broncos also sent senior Evan Shannon to the state meet. The senior finished fifth overall with a time of 16:33.90.

The Lake View Chiefs and Maidens were in Lubbock for the meet.

Alexis Ledesma led the Chiefs, who finished 22nd. The freshman clocked a team-best time of 18:09.20.

For the Maidens, their only participant was junior Jade Parker. She finished with a time of 13:50.90.

In the region II meet at Angelo State University, the Sterling City Lady Eagles placed third to qualify for state. Josh Rivera placed 10th individually to qualify for state.

The Paint Rock Indians also took Home second to qualify as a team for the state meet.
