SAN ANGELO, TX-- It’s time to announce the San Angelo LIVE! Player of the Week for week 8.
It’s pretty easy to pick a player after they break an 18-year-old school record.
This week’s honors goes to Central Bobcat sophomore QB Malachi Brown.
In the Bobcats 32-28 win over Fort Worth Richland, Brown carried the ball 42 times for 338 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns.
Brown’s two rushing scores came in the second half.
The sophomore scored on a 2-yard run at the end of the third quarter to bring Central within 28-26.
He would give Central the lead and the win on a 9-yard run with 10 minutes, 10 seconds left in the game.
Through the air, Brown was 8-of-17 passing for 54 yards with a pair of touchdown passes.
Brown pulled Central level at 7 with a 10-yard pass to Christian Gabaldon in the first quarter. Sam Goodloe caught the other touchdown pass on a 32-yard completion by Brown.
The win kept Central (6-2, 3-1) a half-game back of District 3-6A leader Fort Worth Haltom (7-0, 3-0).
The sophomore receiver-turned-quarterback is on the verge of a 1,000-yard rushing season with 996 yards rushing on 124 carries.
This is Brown’s second San Angelo LIVE! Player of the Week honor.
The sophomore took home the honor for his week 4 performance against El Paso Pebble Hills.
Brown has also received recognition at the state level for this performance.
Dave Cambpell's Texas Football nominated the sophomore for their weekly Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week award. You can vote here.
The winner is announced toward the end of the week.
Central goes on the road to face district bottom-dweller Hurst Bell (1-6, 0-3) this Friday.
A win this week would put Central at a 4-1 mark in district heading into their bye week in week 10, subsequently meaning a chance at a share of the district championship in their regular season finale with Haltom in week 11.
