A semi-trailer truck rollover happened in Carlsbad, on Burma Road at approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday morning. The truck was full of caliche.
The truck driver was driving north, dropped a book inside the cab and attempted to get it while still driving. The truck approached a turn in the road and he came up from looking down too late to safely navigate the turn, the DPS said.
The driver over-corrected and the truck departed controlled travel, rolling over, and smashing a portion of the fenceline.
The driver was the sole occupant and was not injured. There were no bystanders on this rural section of Tom Green County.
The driver was cited for Unsafe Speed at a Curve, said the investigating DPS Trooper Carlos Diaz.
There are a multitude of large trucks travelling down Burma Road because there is a aggregate pit, Turner Pit, that dispenses primarily caliche. The truck traffic during the investigation was heavy.
The Carlsbad VFD tended to the accident scene along with the Tom Green County Sheriff's Department.
