SAN ANGELO, TX – Today is the first coldest day of fall, and two women are providing free coats to those in need.
This morning, the Catholic Outreach donated coats for the cause, but the public is more than welcome to drop off coats at 215 S. Oakes St. on the corner closest to E. Twohig Ave. or J. Wilde’s, 20 E. Concho Ave.
“Three winters ago, my husband and I saw someone on tv doing this in Dallas,” said Becky Morris. “We are at a great location because we have a corridor between services and the bridges.”
The ladies choose the first cold spell of the season to donate coats, and this is the third fall/winter that they have been doing this.
It is hard to get the word out to the needy since they don’t have access to the news, but Wilde and Morris tell Salvation Army where they are going to be, so they can get the word out too.
“We get a really good response from the community. We leave the racks out 24/7 and in past years we used to run out,” Morris said. “People will start donating their coats as soon as they know we’re here.”
