Tropical Storm Sergio Remnants Prompt Flash Flood Watch

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for the Concho Valley as remnants of tropical storm Sergio dump rain across West Texas. 

According to the NWS, a flash flood watch is in effect for the Big Country, the Concho Valley and the Heartland areas from 11 p.m. tonight through 1 p.m.Saturday.

The remnants tropical storm Sergio, now just south of El Paso, will move northeast across West and North Texas late tonight into Saturday.

Heavy rainfall of 1 to 3 inches could produce flash flooding on already saturated soils in these areas.

Showers and thunderstorms will become numerous late tonight across the Concho Valley and Heartland areas as the remnants of tropical storm Sergio move northeast across the region.

One to three inches of rainfall are possible in short periods of time through 1 p.m., along with locally heavier amounts.

As soils are already saturated, any rainfall will quickly run off produce flash flooding.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

There is a 70 percent chance of rain tonight and an 80 percent chance of rain Saturday.
