Busy Weekend in Store for Health Awareness Events

 

SAN ANGELO, TX – Three events are happening today in San Angelo and seven other notable events will be taking place tomorrow.

Friday Events

The first event of the day is the Grand Re-Opening of Toddler Town, a children’s play place. Today only is half off admission. The event is from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 3132 Sherwood Way. Snacks and refreshments will be served and socks are required for both parents and children. Please do not bring anyone sick.

Tonight, the Hampton’s BBQ restaurant will be hosting their One Year Celebration. They will have free live music from three local artists, free dessert, a special menu and giveaway prizes. Patrons can bring a lawn chair and their own beverage. The kickoff will be at 7 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m. at 229 North Chadbourne Street.

The big event for the weekend is the San Angelo Comic Convention, beginning tonight at 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday times are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Foster Communications Coliseum, 50 E. 43rd St. Headliner guests will include Kel Mitchell, Alexis Tipton, Kara Edwards, Colin Cantwell and Donnie Dunagan. Comicon will feature the San Angelo Roller Girls, Princess Pageant, Fortnight and Super Smash Brothers Tournaments, trick-or-treating, and Friday and Saturday Night After Parties among other small events. Music Tribute Events

Saturday night will be the 2nd Annual Mistfits Tribute Night at De Nada, 901 N. Chadbourne, from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. Local bands will be performing songs by the Misfits.

There will also be a Michael Jackson Tribute Concert from 8 to 10 p.m. at The Beauregard, 1421 West Beauregard Ave. The two-hour non-stop high energy show for all ages is starring America's number one Michael Jackson impersonator Danny Dash Andrews. Admission is $20 for rows six and up, or $50 for VIP front rows 1-5 with a meet and greet. Health Events for Causes

The 2018 San Angelo Heart Walk, will be at Bentwood Country Club, 2111 Club House Ln. from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Hosted by the American Heart Association, this family-friendly 5k walk is open to all age groups. All activities are free and open to the public. Participants who choose to raise funds are eligible for prizes. The money raised will assist in cardiovascular research and education. The second early-morning event, is the 8th Annual Putt 4 Life Golf Tournament at Quicksand Golf Course, 2305 Pulliam St, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is hosted by the Turn the Paige Foundation, and hopes to raise organ donor registry numbers.

San Angelo Fine Arts Museum and Ballet San Angelo are partnering to present Family Day Health and Wellness at SAMFA, 1 Love St. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. This includes Ballet San Angelo’s 2nd Annual Sharing Dance Day. There will be performances, art activities, PiYo and Zumba Classes, a Snack-tivity with Junior League, food trucks and more. Lastly, hosted by the West Texas Down Syndrome Association, the 7th Annual Buddy Walk will be at Kirby Park, 1401 Edmund Blvd. Registration starts at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m. October is Down Syndrome Awareness month, and the walk will have music, food, a prize raffle, and activities for the kids.

ASU Homecoming Events

Friday October 12 will be ASU’s Homecoming pep rally at 8 p.m. in the Junell Center, 2235 S. Jackson St. The bonfire will follow afterwards at Knickerbocker Rd. and University Ave. behind Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.

On Saturday October 13, the Homecoming parade will begin at 11 a.m. in downtown San Angelo area. Ram Jam Tailgaiting starts at 1:30 p.m. with food, activities and giveaways. This year’s live performer will be Parker McCollum. The Rams face West Texas A&M at 4 p.m. and the tailgate will end at 8 p.m.

Canceled Events

The Haunted Hayride at the San Angelo State Park has been canceled for the Saturday October 13 date only due to weather concerns. The State Park is still planning on the Haunted Hayride for next Saturday, October 20.

Also canceled is Cassie’s Place Fall Festival Putt for Pups event due to the recent parvo outbreak. They are working to come up with a similar event before the years end but cannot guarantee that will happen. The dog vaccination and microchip clinic will be combined with the cat clinic on November 10 at North Concho Veterinary Clinic.
