SAN ANGELO, TX — A 33-year-old San Angelo man who assaulted a 67-year-old male relative with a metal broom handle this morning has been arrested.
According to a press release, around 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, San Angelo Police were dispatched to Highland Grocery at 1001 S. Chadbourne for the report of an assault.
Officers arrived and located the victim inside an ambulance. The man was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of multiple injuries he sustained in the assault. His injuries are said to be non-life-threatening. His current condition is unknown.
During follow-up investigation, Officers identified the suspect as Jimmy Perez and determined that the assault occurred at a residence in the 1000 block of Orient Street. Perez was no longer on scene but Officers located evidence of a struggle along with the broom used to commit the assault.
Just before 12:30 this afternoon, a Patrol Sergeant who was searching for Perez observed Perez attempting to hide in the 200 block of W. Avenue N. The Patrol Sergeant attempted to make contact with Perez but Perez ran. Moments later, Perez surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident and transported to Police Headquarters for interview.
Following his interview, Perez was charged with Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon Family Violence and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
Additional charges are pending the outcome of this ongoing investigation
On October 4, 2018 Perez was arrested for Terroristic Threat of Family Member/Household at the residence on Orient after he made threats of violence to the same victim while holding hedge clippers.
