WALL, TX— The Wall Lady Hawks took on the Sonora Lady Broncos in a crucial District 4-3A matchup.
The Lady Hawks lost the first set 25-14, but came back and won three straight 25-22, 25-21, and 25-21 to avenge their earlier loss.
The Lady Broncos came out hot in the first set, going up 10-5 early behind senior Mary Kyle Johnson.
“We started slow once again,” Wall head coach Robynn Jones said. “But against Sonora, you've got to come back fast”
That's what they did by leading wire-to-wire in the second set. Rylee Luther's defense was crucial in this win. She finished with 11 digs. She completed the double-double with 10 assists as well
In the third set, it seemed as Sonora was getting a little winded with not very many subs coming in and out of the game. They fell short to keep up with the pace the Lady Hawks played.
“We fought and we fought hard and we never stopped fighting, and that is a testament to our mental toughness.” Coach Jones “It took every single one of us, everyone played tough, and thats what you have to have a full team to beat a good team like sonora.”
The Lady Broncos came out with the lead 20-14, but the Lady Hawks battled back and went on a 10-1 run to cap the game off.
Rylee Braden led the Lady Hawks' offense with 10 kills.
The Lady Hawks take first place in district with a 6-1 record and a 23-13 record overall, while the Lady Broncos experienced their first loss in district play.
