SAN ANGELO, TX-- With 10 teams enjoying their bye week before district play starts, most eyes in the Concho Valley will be on San Angelo Stadium where Central hosts Euless Trinity this Friday.
Central, who has faced plenty of adversity this season, feels they are ready for that test.
Here are previews and predictions for Week 6 in the Concho Valley:
Euless Trinity Trojans (4-0, 1-0) @ Central Bobcats (4-1, 1-0); Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m.
This game was always going to be tough for Central. It got tougher when the Bobcats got bit by the injury bug with Maverick McIvor going down in week 2 and Phillip Lupton out of the game last week.
Then the Bobcats had that adversity compounded with disciplinary action that left them without four starters last week.
However, Central has responded well each and every time.
In week 3, Malachi Brown made his first-ever start at QB for Central after McIvor's season-ending knee injury. The first two quarters were definitely an adjustment period for the sophomore. He then found his groove and started making plays in the second half. That groove has led to two consecutive for the Bobcats and Brown emerging as a big playmaker.
Central's defense has also been the focal point through the first half of the season. They've held opponents to 17.6 points and 275.2 yards per game.
But Central hasn't faced a team like Trinity this season.
Offensively, The Trojans are averaging 33 points per game and 325.5 yards per game in their Wing-I offense.
Trinity's senior RB Brandon Theus has been a nightmare for opponents, averaging 127 yards rushing per game.
One thing working in Central's favor is their run defense. Central has held opponents to 72.3 yards rushing per game. Once again, that hasn't been against a team like Trinity, but Central has shown they have the ability to stop the run.
Opponents have struggled against the Trojans' defense as well. Teams have been held to a dismal 15.5 points per game.
Central's offense is averaging 342.6 yards of total offense this season. However, in the three games Brown has started, that number has dropped to 273.6 yards per game.
Central does have the streak of 25 straight regular season home games with a win and they will likely feed off the energy from a big crowd on Friday.
However, that may not be enough against Trinity

Brownfield Cubs (3-2) @ Lake View Chiefs (1-4); Oct. 4, 7:00 p.m.
The Chiefs host Class 3A Brownfield in their final home game of the nondistrict schedule.
Brownfield is coming off a 58-8 drubbing at the hand of a really good Shallowater team.
The Cubs' defense gives up a lot of points, an average of 32 to be exact. Lake View has an offense that can take advantage of that.
Kendall Blue has stepped up well as Lake View's starting QB. Fellow senior Ahmad Daniels has become a legitimate weapon downfield.
However, Lake View has struggled to score. The Chiefs are averaging 22 points per game through five games.
This game will be a chance for Lake View to get their timing down. The Chiefs should thrive in this game.
Lake View 34, Brownfield 14
Anson Tigers (1-3, 1-0) @ Ballinger Bearcats (2-2, 0-1); Oct. 5, 7:30 p.m.
Ballinger found out how good Cisco was last week, so there should not be much said critically of the Bearcats.
This week they get a great opportunity for their first district win against Anson.
The Tigers got their first win of the season last week with a 52-28 result against winless Bangs. However, Anson is allowing 44.7 points per game.
Ballinger, aside from the Cisco game, has an offense capable of carving up Anson's defense.
Anson, on the other hand, is averaging 437 yards and 30.5 points per game. That could be tough for Ballinger.
Ballinger, however, is playing at home and they usually play well at home.
Ballinger 31, Anson 28
