San Angelo ISD Recognized for "Superior" Financial Integrity

SAN ANGELO, TX — For the 16th year in a row, the San Angelo Independent School District has received the highest rating of "A" (Superior) on the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST).

Schools FIRST is the financial accountability system for Texas school districts developed by the Texas Education Agency in response to Senate Bill 875 of the 76th Texas Legislature in 1999. The Texas Education Agency assigns one of four financial accountability ratings to Texas school districts, with the highest being "A" for Superior", followed by "B" for "Above-Standard", "C" for "Standard" and "F" for "Substandard."

The primary goal of Schools FIRST is to achieve quality performance in the management of school districts' financial resources, a goal made more significant due to the complexity of accounting associated with Texas' school finance system.

Assistant Superintendent and the district's Chief Financial Officer, Jeff Bright, continues to credit district staff for their diligence seeing that San Angelo ISD operates efficiently, effectively, and within the limits of state and federal guidelines. He thanks the school board for their support and for maintaining high standards within the district's financial operations.

The District will present the report at the regular board meeting in November .
