San Angelo Police, Tom Green County Sheriff's Deputies Devour Ribs for Cause

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Officers from the San Angelo Police Department and deputies from the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office teamed up for a light-hearted competition on Friday.

The two law enforcement agencies sent six of their finest to Texas Roadhouse for a rib eating relay. The winner got bragging rights and money for the charity of their choice.

The Sheriff's deputies won the race and donated their $250 prize to the Hope House of San Angelo.

"We enjoy friendly rivalry between the two agencies, we all get along," Sheriff David Jones said. "It just helps us to get together, but, more than that, this is going to a good cause and that's what it's all about, to provide for good organizations like the Hope House."

Deputies and officers from different shifts volunteered for the event, which Sheriff Jones feels is a benefit to his office's cohesion.

"They all willingly wanted to come out and participate for the good cause," Sheriff Jones said. "It's good for them to get together like this, off duty, and participate in an organized deal like this."

While the Sheriff's Office won the competition, SAPD will get another chance with another fundraiser and competition next month.
