BRONTE, TX-- The defending state champion Bronte Lady Longhorns started their District 7-2A campaign on the right foot with a four set win over the Veribest Lady Falcons.
Bronte won 25-20, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-10 against the Lady Falcons to start district 1-0.
Kristen Stilley and Karissa Cervenka each led the Lady Longhorns in kills with seven. Bryton Pearcy had six to her name.
Cassidy McWright was in a groove setting up Bronte's attack with 20 assists in the win.
Jayden Speary provided three aces to go with her team-leading 17 digs. Searra Powell and McWright also posted double-digit digs with 11 and 10 respectively.
Bronte's junior varsity also won against Veribest in straight sets.
Bronte (15-7, 1-0) will next travel to last year's district champion Water Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
Slow Start Doesn't Stop Lady Hawk's Dominance of Clyde
After dropping the first set 25-20 against the Clyde Lady Bulldogs, the Wall Lady Hawks proceeded to dominate Clyde in the next three.
Wall won the next three sets 25-13, 25-19 and 25-2. Yes, you read that last score right.
Kylie Phillips and Lauren Scherr each posted seven kills for Wall in the win. Phillips also led the Lady Hawk's defense with 14 digs. Scherr and Rylie Braden posted three blocks each.
Mallory Melton had a great match as the Lady Hawk's setter, posting 27 assists. Melton also had seven digs, three service aces, and one kill for Wall.
Kaitlyn Stephens was the team leader in blocks with four.
The Lady Hawks (13-8) will be on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 11, to face Class 4A foe Sweetwater.
