Four Arrested in Drug Related Shotgun Murder Saturday

Updated 8/22/18 11:00 a.m.  Abilene Police Chief Stan Standridge detailed the investigation into the murder of Chance Bonni during a news conference Wednesday morning.

Chief Standridge said investigators interviewed dozens of witnesses in the murder case.

Investigators were able to locate and recover the suspected murder weapon, a shotgun that was found in a north Abilene residence.

According to Chief Standridge, Bonni was shot once in the chest with the shotgun through a closed front door.  He was transported to Hendrick Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

Police found drugs in the apartment.

The investigation led to the interview and arrest of the four suspects.  Standridge says Pimpton and Applin are related to the other murder victim who was killed Saturday, Delbert Pimpton.

Other than the relationship, the two murders are unrelated.

The chief said the occupants of the apartment were evicted the next day.

During the news conference, Chief Standridge said there have been 53 murders in Abilene since he became chief in 2009 and that only four of those remain unsolved.

As we reported earlier, Delbert Pimpton was shot in the head and killed early Saturday by his neighbor, Roy Lee Jackson.

Jackson said they had been drinking and he didn't remember pulling the trigger.
