San Angelo ISD Comments on C Rating From the Texas Education Agency

Updated 3:45 p.m. Wed. 8/15/18 -- San Angelo Independent School District Director of Communications Derrick Jackson released the following statement on the District's accountability rating:

"As a district, SAISD continues to Meet Standard on the state accountability system.  We remain steadfast in our approach to teaching and learning, and that is to engage all students in a relevant and inspiring education that produces future ready graduates.  While we are proud of the growth in student achievement across a variety of areas, as well as our district curriculum development, we fully recognize and take ownership of our academic achievement gaps.  We are implementing action steps to ensure all children succeed academically and continue to excel in areas of individual strength. In SAISD, we embrace accountability based on multiple measures and community values."

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Texas school ratings are out Wednesday from the Texas Education Agency and the San Angelo ISD received a ‘C’ on a scale of  F to A with F meaning failing and A meaning excellent.

According to the TEA website, the SAISD received an overall rating of ‘C’ and the report card is designed to tell how well the district is helping students reach grade level and how well it is preparing them for success after high school. Much like the grades given students, educators use these grades to identify ways to help schools improve over time.

The overall grade is based on performance in three different areas; student achievement, school progress and closing the gaps.

Student achievement measures whether students have met grade-level expectations as measured by the STAAR test. It also considers graduation rates and how prepared students are for life after high school.

School progress measures how much better students performed on the STAAR test this year versus last year. It also looks at how much better students are doing academically at the district compared to similar districts.

Closing the Gaps measures the percentage of different groups of students that are performing above state goals in four areas.

The overall rating of individual schools in the SAISD show that most campuses met the TEA standard.  Improvement is required at the following schools according to the rating: Glenn Middle School, Lincoln Middle School, Alta Loma, Austin, Bowie and Goliad elementary schools.

Both Central and Lake View High Schools met the state standard.

By comparison, Wall ISD got an A, Christoval got a B, Grape Creek got a D, Water Valley got a B, and Miles got an A.
