Concho Valley District Predictions: Where will the 4 Area Teams Finish in 4-3A DII?

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Next up in the Concho Valley District Predictions by San Angelo Live is Class 3A DII.

Five teams from the area represent two districts in this classification. Reagan County is the lone team from the area and were put in the spread-out District 1-3A DII. Ballinger, Coleman, Grape Creek and TLCA make up half of District 4-3A DII.

District 1-3A DII

1. Reagan County Owls (2017: 5-6, Bi-District Finalist)*
2. Alpine Bucks (2017: 7-4, Bi-District Finalist)*
3. Crane Golden Cranes (2017: 4-7, Bi-District Finalist)*
4. Anthony Wildcats (2017: 4-7, 2A DI Bi-District Finalist)*

Blake Weston's Owls return the most starters of anyone in this district with seven on each side. Even though they lost Sam Goodloe III, the Owls should still have a potent offense with quarterback Justin Chavez and the rest of the ground game returning for Reagan County. Supplementing that return will be a solid group of strong, speedy linemen who will open up lanes for their ball carriers. That should mean Reagan County picks up a district title after going 2-2 last year.

District 4-3A DII

2. Ballinger Bearcats (2017: 3-8, Bi-District Finalist)*
3. Merkel Badgers (2017: 7-6, 3A DI Regional Semifinalist)*
4. Grape Creek Eagles (2017: 1-10, Bi-District Finalist)*
5. Anson Tigers (2017: 5-6, 2A DI Bi-District Finalist)
6. Coleman Bluecats (2017: 3-8, Bi-District Finalist)
7. TLCA Eagles (2017: 3-7, Missed Playoffs) 
8. Bangs Dragons (2017: 0-10, Missed Playoffs)

To say this district will be competitive would be a drastic understatement.

It's without a doubt that Cisco is favored as each team enters the starting gate. The Loboes are well coached and are tradition-rich. If they don't win a district championship, they'll still finish toward the top. 

Ballinger should be their stiffest competition out of the gate. The Bearcats appear to be much further ahead of their 2017 team through the first week of fall practice. With a big corps of skill guys returning for the Bearcats, it's safe to say they can challenge Cisco.

Grape Creek has a new feel to it in Tanner Thiel's first year. The kids are as excited as they have been in the recent past and there's a familiarity with the players. That's a pretty good combo for the coach of a team who returns speed from the state track meet along with 15 starters.

Coleman and TLCA should not be written off, however.

Coleman brings a playoff tradition to the table in that their players find a way to make the postseason. This year may not be any different from that.

TLCA made tremendous strides in Brent Riders' first year as the head coach of the Eagles. He will also be the benefactor of a solid corps of returners and 14 lettermen coming back. The Eagles have a chance to make the playoffs for the first time in a couple of years.
