San Angelo Car Salesman Pleads Guilty to Another Felony Drug Charge

SAN ANGELO, TX -- A former San Angelo car salesman pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance Wednesday morning in the Tom Green County courthouse.  

36-year-old Shaelan Derek Rodgers was charged with manufacture or delivery of between 4 and 200 grams of methamphetamine on Dec. 29, 2016.

He is currently serving a 35 year sentence for engaging in organized criminal activity for distributing methamphetamine in Tom Green, Concho, Menard and Kimball counties.  As we reported on June 18, Rodgers was sentenced in Junction in the Kimball County courthouse by 452nd District Judge Robert Hofmann.

Testimony in that trial we covered in Junction showed at one time Rodgers was pushing up to a pound of meth a day.  

There was no testimony in today’s trial in Tom Green County.  Rodgers pleaded guilty to the delivery charge which is a first degree felony in exchange for a ten year sentence and an agreement that prosecutors would drop charges out of Concho county.  Rodgers was charged with a felony terroristic threat to a peace officer and obstruction. He also had a misdemeanor criminal mischief charge which was dropped as part of the plea deal.

By taking the plea deal, Rodgers cannot appeal the court’s ruling.  He will serve the ten years concurrently with the 35 year sentence. He was also ordered to pay $180 in restitution.  

Judge Hofmann told the then 34-year-old that he found him guilty as charged.  Then the Judge said, “I see by your record that you are about to turn 35-years-old, so I’m sentencing you to 35 years in prison.”

The Judge also ordered Rodgers to pay a $10,000 fine.

The punishment range for a first degree felony is five to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
