2nd Day of 108 Degree High Temp Breaks Another Record as Sweltering Heat Wave Continues

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The National Weather Service office in San Angelo reported Friday that another high temperature record was broken.

The NWS tweeted "At 4:12 PM, San Angelo hit 108 degrees. This breaks the old record of 107 degrees set back in 1925. #recordheat #heatwave #SanAngelo #TXwx."

The unrelenting heat wave is forecast to continue for the forseable future.  An Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect until at least Sunday evening. 

Dangerously hot temperatures will continue to affect the area through this weekend and Monday, with afternoon high temperatures between 103 and 109 degrees.

This prolonged period of hot weather will increase the risk for heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency call 9 1 1.
