ABILENE, TX-- KTXS in Abilene reports two people died in a house fire overnight in south Abilene.
In the early morning hours, firefighters with the Abilene Fire Department responded to a home in the 4700 block of Pamela Drive.
When they arrived, there were no flames showing, but first responders found a man and a woman in the home.
According to KTXS, emergency personnel was performing CPR on one of the victims.
Both were transported to the Abilene Regional Medical Center. The woman was reportedly pronounced dead shortly after.
The man was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas to be treated for his burns, but was eventually pronounced dead.
“This is a hard one. It’s not very often that the Abilene Fire Department or the City of Abilene encounters any kind of fire fatalities,” Deputy Chief Mike Burden told KTXS. “I do not recall the last time we had a double fatality that was related to a fire incident.”
The family of the victims had yet to be notified, so the names of the victims were withheld.
The cause of the fire is said to be accidental but the fire is still under investigation. The fire is said to have started in the living room.
