Sawyer's Longhorns, Martin's Red Raiders Each Book Tickets to CWS

AUSTIN/LUBBOCK, TX-- The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Texas Longhorns each booked their tickets to the College World Series in Omaha, Neb., with help from two former Central Bobcats.

Both teams were facing win-or-go-home game threes in their respective Super Regionals.

Davis Martin got the start in the Lubbock Super Regional for the Red Raiders. The right-handed hurler would go three innings for the Red Raiders, falling short of the innings needed to get the winning decision in the 6-2 win. But Martin would do well in his three innings, striking out four, walking two and allowing just one run on three hits.

Josh Sawyer was the third pitcher used for the Longhorns in their do-or-die Super Regional against Tennessee Tech. The southpaw came on in the sixth inning for Texas and registered just a third of an inning pitched and two batters faced after allowing one baserunner to load the bases. The Longhorns would go on to escape the bases loaded jam and win 5-2.

The Super Regional win for the Longhorns marks the 36th time the University of Texas has made it to the College World Series. No other program in the country has more than 25 appearances. Texas Tech is making their third-ever appearance and second in three years.

Texas Tech (44-18) will face the winner of the Florida/Auburn Super Regional to begin play in Omaha while Texas (42-21) will face the winner of the Arkansas/South Carolina Super Regional. A win by both teams or losses by both the Longhorns and Red Raiders means the two teams will face each other in their second game in Omaha.

Both Martin and Sawyer were drafted in the 2018 MLB Draft last Wednesday.

The College World Series begins Friday, June 16, at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
