ASU's Rholl Hears Name Called at 2018 MLB Draft

 

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Angelo State Ram baseball pitcher Kellen Rholl heard his name called in the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday.

Rholl, a four-year feature for the Rams, was drafted in the 25th round by the Cleveland Indians with the 763rd pick and was the first Ram to be drafted this year. He is the eighth Ram to be drafted in the last five years. Rholl is also the 19th Ram to get a chance to continue their baseball career at the professional level.

This year, the Shoreview, Minn., native made a team-leading 25 appearances, all in relief, and posted a 3.72 ERA with 10 saves and 40 strikeouts in 29 innings pitched.

Rholl's performance this year earned him a spot on the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Region First Team as well as a nod to the All-Lone Star Conference Second Team. In 2015, Rholl was selected as the LSC Freshman of the Year.

Over the course of his four years at ASU, Rholl saw time as both a starter and reliever. The southpaw pitcher also boasted a career ERA of 5.61 in 77 innings pitched with 83 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .267 batting average during his four years in San Angelo.
