Here We Go Again! Severe Thunderstorms Threatening the San Angelo Area

Strong Thunderstorms are passing through the Concho Valley this hour as the sound of thunder rolls across San Angelo and the surrounding areas.  A severe thunderstorm over southwestern Irion County is approaching Barnhart. This storm likely has baseball size hail, and has potential to produce a funnel cloud or tornado. This is the best kind of rainfall!  Any rain that falls now will be on already saturated ground and will runoff into streams and lakes.

A line of strong thunderstorms across western Sterling County at 630 pm will continue to move eastward toward Sterling City and western Tom Green County through the early evening. These storms should reach to near Sterling City and Mertzon by 730 pm. Expect gusty winds, heavy rainfall, small hail, and frequent lightning with these storms. Further strengthening is possible, so stay alert and watch for updates over the next few hours

Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Southwestern Sterling County in west central Texas... * Until 730 PM CDT * At 641 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 12 miles west of Sterling City, moving east at 25 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. * This severe thunderstorm will be near, Sterling City around 710 PM CDT.

SAN ANGELO, TX -- National Weather Service forecasters say storms are brewing west of Sterling City and Mertzon and are headed toward San Angelo again Wednesday evening.

According to the NWS at 5:38 p.m. , A line of thunderstorms Located from Big Spring to Iraan at 530 pm will continue to strengthen and head eastward into the western Concho Valley and Big Country through the early evening.

These storms should reach to near Sterling City and Mertzon by 7 pm. Expect gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning with these storms. Further strengthening is possible, so stay alert and watch for updates over the next few hours.

The main hazards will be large hail, damaging winds, and dangerous lightning. Also, localized flooding is possible.

While the forecast calls for only a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 7pm and 1am. The storms are developing and It will be partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Southeast wind 5 to 15 mph tonight.
