Flood Water Flowing Down the Middle Concho River Into Twin Buttes Reservoir

 

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Two nights of severe thunderstorms over the Twin Buttes watershed has flood water flowing into the reservoir from the Middle Concho River and the South Concho River.  

According to the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, Twin Buttes Reservoir has risen almost 2 feet in 2 days thanks to multiple rounds of heavy rain. There is another chance of rain this afternoon/evening, which could further help our reservoirs.

The Middle Concho River at Tankersley Wednesday was running at 8.2 feet and the South Concho River at Christoval was running at 2.2 above normal.  At one point Wednesday morning the Middle Concho was running at 3,000 cubic feet per second.

Twin Buttes has 12,271 acre feet of water in it today and rising according to water data for texas.  It is 6.7 percent full and the capacity is 182,454 acre feet.

NWS forecasters call for another chance for thunderstorms are possible across West Central Texas mainly this afternoon and evening. A few storms may be severe. The main hazards will be large hail, damaging winds and dangerous lightning. Also, localize flooding is possible.

Twin Buttes is one of my favorite spots in San Angelo... Lot's of good memories out here. Haven't heard the term "12 mile", in quite some time now. Got bit by an "assassin bug" out here one time while gar fishing.
