SAN ANGELO, TX — The 10th Annual Simply Blues Festival is coming up fast. The San Angelo Blues Society is putting on the festival of the year on May 19. The venue is set up in downtown San Angelo on S. Oakes Street and the festivities start in the afternoon and last until 11:00 p.m.
The San Angelo Blues Society is a part of The Blues Foundation headquarters in Memphis, Tennessee. “We are the only active Blues Foundation affiliated Blues Society providing entrants to the International Blues Challenge, West of Dallas/Fort Worth, and North of Austin. That’s an area of several thousand square miles,” according to the San Angelo Blues Society website.
The 10th Annual Simply Blues Festival is the battle grounds for blues artists and bands to compete for the spot to go to the International Blues Challenge in Jan. 2019. Bands come from all around to compete and claim the top spot to go to Memphis, Tennessee. The San Angelo Blues Society sends the top band and solo artists to compete in the International Blues Challenge.
More bands are needed for the competition. They must be blues artists and they must fill out an application from the San Angelo Blues Society website.
Headliners for the Blues Festival include: T. Gozney Thornton & Chivo Blue, Michael Milligan & Texicana Bluez, and John Nemeth & The Blues Dreamers.
There will be a rib cook off, a car show, food, and craft vendors. A 10 Year Anniversary Quilt will be raffled off and trophies will be given to top cook off and car show competitors.
This is a family friendly FREE all-day celebration of the blues.
