Historic Season Brings 12 All-District Honorees for Lady Cats

SAN ANGELO, TX-- In their last season in District 8-6A, 12 Central Lady Cat softball players earned All-District honors.

Central head coach David Millsap announced that to his team at a banquet Monday evening.

The 2018 season saw the Lady Cats make more history by making the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time.

Their incredible season wouldn't have been historic had it not been for the cohesive unit brought about by these 12 athletes.

Freshman pitcher Ashton McMillan earned Co-Newcomer of the Year honors with Killeen Shoemaker's Maddie Martinez. McMillan broke onto the scene in her freshman campaign with a .457 batting average, 10 extra-base hits including a pair of homeruns and 20 RBIs. The freshman hurler was also sound in the circle by striking out 33 batters and no errors committed.

Her fellow freshman in the circle Baylee Fulps took Pitcher of the Year honors after posting a 3.19 ERA and striking out 62 batters.

Senior short stop Sydnie Gilbert and junior center fielder Kaleigh Ochinang were the lone first-team honorees for Central.

Gilbert Led the team in batting average (,481) and runs scored (21) while also swiping 10 bases for the Lady Cats. Ochinang led Central in stolen bases (13) and RBIs (21) in a year where she posted a .304 batting average as Centrals every day center fielder.

Senior third baseman Maddie Stewart and sophomore first baseman Emily Sanchez took home second-team honors for the Lady Cats.

Stewart posted a .357 batting average and 16 RBIs while manning the hot corner for Central. Sanchez, in her second year in the program, posted a .981 fielding percentage and a .308 batting average along with 17 RBIs.

Kaya Howell, Kalya Subia, Diamond Velasquez and Kat Herrera were tabbed to the Honorable Mention team for the district.

Sam Howell and Mick Jones earned Academic All-District honors along with Herrera, Gilbert, McMillan, Sanchez, Subia and Velasquez.

The Lady Cats finished their season 16-14-2 after dropping their Bi-District playoff series with South Grand Prairie.
