San Angelo Gives Gets the Best From the Concho Valley on Record Day

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The generous people of the Concho Valley came out in droves on May 1 for the annual San Angelo Gives charity drive put on by the San Angelo Area Foundation.

San Angelo Gives broke records set in 2017 with $1,680,296 and  6,932 gifts raised for the drive which supports non-profit organizations throughout the Concho Valley.

"It's truly humbling," Vice President of Development and Marketing Janet Karcher said. "The San Angelo Area Foundation works to help these organizations, but the organizations are the boots on the ground. Without the organizations, our staff and the community, none of this would be possible."

The drive kept climbing throughout the day and the staff realized they were going to shatter the old mark of just under $1.5 million and 5,545 gifts from a year ago. Around 10:30 p.m., just over 22 hours into the drive, the records were broken.

"It was emotional," Karcher said of the moment with the SAAF saw the new record. "We're really excited about the Concho Valley and San Angelo supporting their favorite organizations. It was very inspiring. It's an honor to host this event and provide the opportunity to improve the quality of life for theses organizations."

Cornerstone Christian School received the most money during the drive with $106,634 raised through 363 gifts. Cornerstone Christian School also received the $500 Midnight Madness prize for most donations between midnight and 3 a.m. as well as the $1,000 Calculations and Contributions prize for the most donations between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m and the $250 Crunch at Lunch prize.

Right behind Cornerstone came the House of Faith with $93,195. The House of Faith received more gifts than any other organization with 568. They also won six of the 17 prizes from San Angelo Gives for a total of $4,000.

The Children's Miracle Network-Shannon Medical Center, Meals for the Elderly, Hospice of San Angelo and Sonrisas Trails each received a $250 prize for Philanthropy Beyond Calculations. That prize is given to the four organizations which help San Angelo Gives break the $1,445,549 million mark.

Meals for the Elderly also received the $250 Early Bird prize for the first $100 donation of the day.

Be Theatre won the $1,000 Rise and Shine prize given to the organization with the most unduplicated donors between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m.

San Angelo Storm Elite won the $500 Record Breaker prize awarded to the NPO with the 5,546th gift of the day to break last year's record.

This year's drive saw over 170 non-profit organizations receive donations during the 24-hour time period.

Meanwhile Abilene Gives raised just $550 thousand during their 24-hour drive.
