Lady Cat's Offense Unable to Get Going Against Belton

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Central Lady Cats were outmatched against a high-powered Belton team that dominated from beginning to end to win 12-1 after five innings of play.

“Belton’s a good ball club, we knew that coming in. We respect their talent. They have always been good. They are tied for first for a reason,” said Central Lady Cat Head Coach David Millsap. “I wasn’t happy with our approach at the plate though. It seemed like we were guessing every once in a while. I give credit to their pitchers some but we’re a better hitting club than that.”

Belton got things going early scoring in the first inning on an error and a double by Madison Bartlett.

In the fifth inning Belton really blew things open scoring five runs. Belton’s offensive attack in the inning can be attributed to a single by Maddison Parker and Avery Drake, and a double by Paige Nunes.

Taylor Tubbs was the winning pitcher for Belton going four innings, while only surrendering one run to Central on three hits. Tubbs recorded four strikeouts before being relieved by Hannah Kelley.

The Lady Cats struggled throughout the night to stop Belton’s offensive onslaught, giving up 12 runs in five innings. Belton’s Bethany Edwards led their squad going 3-for-4 to add to Belton’s 11 hits on the day.

Ashton McMillan led the way for the Lady Cats going 2-for-2 to lead Central at the plate.

Bailey Fulps earned the loss for Central after allowing seven runs on six hits in three innings of work. She also recorded a strikeout and one walk for the game.

In terms of pitching Coach Millsap stated he thought, “our pitchers did a much better job of hitting spots we didn’t give up walks and that was a positive.”

Despite the loss, the Lady Cats (15-11-2, 8-4) are looking to rebound and generate some momentum the playoffs. They will face another tough district opponent when they go on the road to face Waco Midway next Tuesday at 6 p.m.
