WALL, TX-- Ashlynn and Payton Box combined for eight hits, eight runs scored and six RBIs to propel the 14th-ranked Wall Lady Hawks to a 20-1 win in five innings against Grape Creek on Tuesday. The win was Wall's seventh in-a-row.
Ashlynn Box led the way for the Lady Hawks with five RBIs in the game.
Along with the Box cousins, four other Lady Hawks recorded multi-hit games. Lexi Valles, one of the other four, recorded the only home run for the Lady Hawks with a three-run shot over the left field fence to put Wall up 4-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
The Lady Hawks plated their 20 runs without allowing a run to the Lady Eagles through four frames.
Nita Betts plated the only run for the Lady Eagles in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI ground-out that scored Morgan Fowler, who reached on a walk.
Kenzee Smith got the winning decision for Wall after going five innings where she allowed the one run on one hit with seven strikeouts.
Rose Bannert started for the Lady Eagles but was only able to record one out and surrendered four runs on four hits for the loss. Morgan Fowler came on for three-and-two-thirds innings of relief and surrendered the last 16 runs on 15 hits with one strikeout.
The Lady Hawks (16-4, 6-0) hold steady atop District 4-3A with a one-game lead over Ballinger (16-8, 5-1) heading into their road showdown with Sonora this Saturday, April 7, at noon.
The Lady Eagles (13-6, 2-4) sits in fourth place with Sonora (9-11, 1-5) just one-game behind them. Grape Creek hosts TLCA this Saturday at 10 a.m.
