Angry Cactus Gears Up for Inaugural Wine Fest

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angry Cactus is holding their inaugural Downtown Wine Fest Saturday. The Wine Fest will be a celebration of Texas wine and food culture. It will be a time to discover the unique flavors of wine from across the Lone Star State while interacting with the wine makers.

Tonight (Friday), there is a VIP dinner where Chef Tim Condon will prepare a five-course dinner. The dinner will be paired with various premium wines selected by Chef Condon. Tickets for the dinner sold out earlier this week.

But don’t be annoyed because Saturday is when the celebration starts for all.

The Wine Fest commences at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 24. It features live music, local art, handcrafted goods market, food (lots of it, we're told), night market, and wine tastings. It will last until 9 p.m. at the Angry Cactus and across W Concho Ave. in the wine tasting tent.

Unlimited wine tasting bracelets can be purchased in advance or on the day of the event, or you can purchase tickets for each tasting as you go.

During the event on Saturday, Gus Clemens, a well-known wine columnist, will be on hand to talk to people about the different wines. He’s calling his presentation “Wine Tasting for Dummies.” “I have been around wine all my life,” said Clemens. Clemens has written his nationally syndicated wine column for 10 years and has extensive knowledge on the subject.

Gus will be at a tent across from Angry Cactus during the Wine Fest events on Saturday.

There is a grand prize giveaway at the festival, a bottle of Opus One. The bottle’s suggested retail price is around $350. Tickets are $20 for 5 tastings. But bracelets let you taste as many wines as you can (with moderation, of course. They cannot serve intoxicated patrons) and are $75 each. Bracelets are available at the Angry Cactus or online at Stubwire.
