GULF COAST, TX-- The Texas Beach Watch has tested the water at beaches across the state and they have come back with alarming levels of fecal bacteria.
Texas Beach Watch is a website operated by the Texas General Land Office that shows the water quality of recreational beaches across the Lone Star State, including the counties of Aransas, Brazoria, Cameron, Galveston, Harris, and Jefferson, Matagorda, Nueces and San Patricio.
Texas Beach Watch found Bob Hall Pier on Aransas Island tested high for fecal bacteria.
Texas Beach Watch's tests concluded that several other beaches on Aransas Island were in the low to medium range for fecal bacteria.
Every Matagorda site tested medium to high.
Spring break hotspot South Padre Island showed low amounts of fecal bacteria.
The Environmental Protection Agency says that people run the risk of developing diarrhea, fevers, headaches, nausea, stomachaches or vomiting along with minor illnesses like ear, eye and nose infections.
