LUBBOCK, TX-- The second-ranked Wall Hawks baseball team convincingly won their final two games of the Shallowater Tournament following their 3-0 loss to Denver City.
In their second game last Friday, the Hawks walloped Levelland 10-4.
Senior Dryden Virden led the way offensively for Wall with six RBIs on three hits including a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning to give Wall their winning margin.
Fellow senior Brock Rosenquist also went 3-for-4 and scored three runs in the win.
Mark Nikolauk got the winning decision on the mound for the Hawks after going four-and-a-third innings for Wall, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out five.
The Hawks continued their offensive dominance on Saturday by trouncing Monahans 17-6 in a come-from-behind, run-rule victory that went just five innings.
Caleb Heuertz was the offensive dynamo for the Hawks, going 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and a double. Virden added two more RBIs to his name, bringing his total to 12 for the season. The speedy Rosenquist also swiped three bases in the win.
Will Brown started the game for Wall, but was taken out after two-and-two-thirds innings in which he allowed six runs, all of which were unearned, on five hits. Nikolauk came on in relief of Brown to throw two-and-a-third innings of shutout baseball to get the win. The senior allowed just one hit and struck out four in the victory.
The Hawks improve 5-1 on the year and will be on the road to face Jim Ned tonight at 7:00 pm.
